Things that make me smile!

♥ Old films and music.
Through university I studied a range of film texts and my dissertation was focused on the Film Noir period which emerged from the late 1930s/early 1940s. From an aesthetic perspective, they were a joy to watch - but they also made me fall in love with the idea of life back then. Has anybody seen the new Woody Allen film, 'Midnight in Paris'? (If you haven't seen it, it's worth a watch!) It epitomises how I feel about the olden days. Do you ever feel like you were born in the wrong era? Life just seemed so much better than nowadays. I romanticise the old decades (1920's to the 1970's)  and most of my favourite music is from the 1950s and 1960s too.

♥ Having something to look forward to. Can you believe the countdown to Christmas has started?! It's not even Halloween yet! But I've always loved Christmas time. I love putting up the tree with mum, writing cards and planning what to get people. I'm a big fan of home-made gifts; I really enjoy channelling my inner artist and crafting personal things. But most of all I'm looking forward to spending the most wonderful time of the year with my loved ones.

♥
Getting lost in a book. It's the ultimate escapism. My favourite author is Marian Keyes; you know an author is good when they evoke real reactions - crying, laughing out loud... she's fantastic. I've recently finished 'This Charming Man', and am currently reading one of her earlier books, 'Rachel's Holiday'. I have no doubt I'll have it finished in no time!

Making my little niece smile :)

I love Autumn!

"Autumn is a second Spring when every leaf is a flower."
- Albert Camus

I know I will probably be in the minority here, but I have to say, I prefer the Autumn to the Summer time. It is such a beautiful season, nature gives us a beautiful show of colour and vibrancy as the leaves change to gorgeous shades of brown, orange, golden... even purples and reds. Every Autumn since I was very young, my dad and I would go out and pick wild blackberries and collect hazelnuts from the woods near our house. I'm now 21 years old and still look forward to getting my wellie boots on for a trip to the woods!

Yum!

The biggest complaint about the end of summer is the change in weather. Yes it gets colder, but is there not a real beauty in the combination of a fresh and bright sunny morning? And coming home and curling up by the fire? And I enjoy wrapping up in cosy hats and scarves when venturing out.

Oh! And another reason why I love Autumn? It means it's coming up to the most wonderful time of the year...
